基輔政府向疏散中心分發碘片,為對烏克蘭首都的核攻擊做準備

  • The city council of the Ukrainian capital confirmed it is providing evacuation centres with the pills in preparation of a potential nuclear strike.

This comes as Russia rattles its nuclear sabre as its forces continue to be pushed back even as Moscow declared four regions as their own.

The pills contain potassium iodine, which can help block the absorption of harmful radiation (such as radioactive Iodine 131) by the thyroid gland in the event of a nuclear disaster - if taken just before or immediately after exposure to nuclear radiation.

That is based on the assumption that only radioactive Iodine is being used.

Kyiv authorities said in a statement they will be distributing the pills in areas contaminated by nuclear radiation if there is a need to evacuate.
