    香港監察贊助人、前港督彭定康勳爵向香港人拜年：

    「恭喜發財！祝各位香港人新年快樂，你們有些人不得不流亡海外，移居英國或其他國家，為現在視之為家的國家作巨大貢獻。我很難過你們要離開香港，因中共大舉打壓香港自由，而北京的統戰朋友是幫兇，在香港作惡多端。但我想祝大家新年快樂，玉兔迎春，喜氣洋洋。希望兔年確會帶來長壽、和平與繁榮。我想感謝你們在移居國家所做的一切，當然尤其是英國，也想向身處香港的各位送上美好祝願。我愛香港。看到發生在她身上的事，我十分難過。但我和許多人一樣堅信，我們會一直顧念你們，而獨裁政權及其所做之事總有後果：遲早會消失在歷史中。我認為香港所代表的價值會比任何地方的任何獨裁政權更長久，包括中共。」

    Lord Patten of Barnes, Patron of Hong Kong Watch and the last Governor of Hong Kong, says to Hong Kongers this Lunar New Year:

    “Kung Hei Fat Choy! Happy New Year to all Hong Kongers who have had to go into exile and are living in Britain or in other countries and making a huge contribution to the countries that now they are making their homes in. I am just sorry that you left Hong Kong because of the comprehensive assault on Hong Kong’s freedoms by Beijing communists, and made possible by some United Front friends of Beijing, who are doing their bad work in Hong Kong. But I would like to wish you all a very happy New Year and Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rabbit. I hope it does bring you all longevity and peace and prosperity as is promised. And I’d also, as well as thanking all of you for what you’re doing in the countries that you’ve come to live in, particularly of course Britain, but I’d also like to extend my best wishes to everyone in Hong Kong. I love Hong Kong. I am so sad to see what’s happened to it. But what I think I remain confident about, as do many others, is not only that you’ll remain in our thoughts, but also that what always happens to dictatorships and the things they do is they disappear sooner or later into the rearview mirror of history. So I think what Hong Kong represents, the values it represents, will last a lot longer than any dictatorship anywhere, including in Beijing.”
