    Westminster Seminar on Effective Parliaments (13-17 March 2023):
    Withdrawal of invitation to Hong Kong Legislature

    At a meeting on 26 January 2023 CPA UK’s Executive Committee unanimously agreed to withdraw the invitation to the Hong Kong Legislature to attend the 2023 Westminster Seminar on Effective Parliaments, due to the deteriorating situation in Hong Kong.

    The Westminster Seminar on Effective Parliaments is an opportunity to promote parliamentary democracy, and for delegates to learn more about the role of parliamentarians and parliamentary officials or clerks, as well as share knowledge and good practice with other legislatures.

    Despite a serious erosion of political plurality and participation in Hong Kong, delegates from the Legislative Council have attended some CPA UK events in recent years to involve them in dialogue which promotes democracy.
